Heretic takes place first chronologically, but Codex came out first. So which series should I watch first?

The Codex. The Heretic will make more sense that way.

I think Scar makes an excellent point. Well the movie making techniques are ten times better in the Heretic (the Codex was awesome thought). I suggest watching the Codex first so that you can be amazed by the Heretic and all its improvements.

Well, also the whole point is that you're already familiar with the characters by the time you watch the Heretic and it just gives you background to the Praetor.

And, as the filmmaker, I have to say the quality of the production improves considerably over the course of The Codex. Watch it first, then jump over to The Heretic, which is a more even experience. wink.gif

The Heretic was utterly fantastic. Although as far as I can remember, plotwise, it doesn't really matter which one you watch first.

Speaking of utterly fantastic....Nerrolken! Make more machinima!

I think by this point we would actually have to pay Nerrolken to make machinima(since apparently that's legal, but we just can't pay him for the machinima, but the production we can(ie. how machinima.com pays its directors/producers/etc.))...hahaha.

Hahaha, I wouldn't say no! But seriously, I've got some stuff I'm working on. I recently got a more consistent job (working at an Apple store), so I'll have more money and I can focus on my projects rather than paying my bills. As for what those projects might be, let me just say this...

Yeah. Just for about a week I would like Nerrolken to put up the highest quality of the videos that he has, so I can get them all and put them on a DVD.

So, how about it, Alex?

When a friend first recommended the series to me, I began by watching The Heretic. Although it was evident that there was some back story to the characters, it didn't really impact my understanding of the plot. As one would expect with a chronological series, the events of The Heretic became much more clear when I watched the more comprehensive Codex Series.

As with anything though, you only begin to see smaller details in the plot after you watch it several times.

I am their instrument!" - Prophet of Truth, Halo 3

I would third that, but I am fairly certain that he doesn't have any higher quality versions hidden away.
