As part of the site upgrades and new tools we've been developing, Ryan and I have discussed a custom VP Review Submission page where people can write their reviews and plug in all the relevant information, and then it will automatically format the various links and sections for the final review. However, writing that page is looking like it might be harder than we anticipated, so we were wondering, would such a tool encourage more people to write reviews because they wouldn't have to keep track of all the requirements, or is that not really a factor?

I think that it just takes too long to type, and then have to rearange it again. I'd pump out more reviews if i just had to right a basic, semi-small review (and also requirments and if i need to type this, or if i can just leave that out)

It doesn't bother me, it doesn't take more than a minute to format headings, ratings, links, etc... in the overall picture of writing a review, it doesn't matter to me at all. Plus, that's why we have admins and moderators preview the reviews to make any necessary changes before they go up so while you need to format your reviews properly, you shouldn't fret over it too much because it'll be revised anyway.

What? I wasn't talking about writing the review itself. That is always going to take time and my interpretation of Nerrolken's intentions when he opened up VP was to have a site with fan-reviews that were professional and worthy to read. I'm not very partial to churning out reviews just for the sake of writing reviews and creating some content. Reviews should be well thought out, with substance and thoughtful discussions. Not to mention proper spelling and grammar (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT).

I'm happy with it as it is, but then again, it's really up to you guys. If you think a change would be better, I'm willing to give it a shot.

Well I think that an automated one probably would be best, unless it would be too much of a hassle. What I think could be done is to actually make the Submission page into less the Forum and more into a Webpage based utility. Sort of in the way of a Wiki, except you only edit your page. This probably would take a lot of time to fix up, but I dunno what your full dream scale of the VP project is. smile.gif

I'm fine with it at the moment. Only problem I have is simply starting up a new thread for a movie/book/game entirely so it can be linked to in the review.

That is one thing that bothers me but I know a topic will be created if one doesn't already exist.

The trouble for me is finding the time to get on here and write reviews with all my other real life stuff! If I could be guaranteed that the amount of effort and depth I put into my well written reviews would be rewarded by dedicated webpage archiving then I would definitely spend more time here! tongue.gif I have so many articles i started writing but someone got in first so theirs got the webpage review so I didn't finish the review. Oh well.
